The dissertation attempts to present a taxonomy of sonic and non-sonic cues or codes that imbue senses of space into studio recordings. My focus was especially on musics that are often tagged with a "folk" label or prefix, which has led scholarship to focus on their live performance context and ignore their distinct agenda of spatial invocations, especially pastoral, in their studio counterparts.
